Hall Table
materials: reclaimed Blackwood
dimensions: 1250 x 350 x 920mm
The client brief specified the table be of appropriate size to fit
in a narrow entry hallway. It should also be Shaker in style and preferably
be built from Blackwood. The proportions of the table were subtly
altered from a traditional Shaker form to a more elongated and raised
form. The intention was to "lighten" the table so as not
to dominate the confined space in which it was to be placed. The table
top is highly figured and bookmatched. In another subtle shift from
Shaker design principles, inlays of the endgrain of the legs were
placed in the table top, in response to the client's excitement after
seeing the endgrain while visiting the workshop.
